Motor Insurance Claims


The information provided below aims to give a coherent flow in the Motor Insurance Claims Process. We hope the information provided is useful.

Accidents
 
(A) At the accident scene
  1. Exchange Particulars - Please take note of the following:
  1. Vehicle Registration Number / License Plates of all vehicle(s) involved.

  2. Name(s), Address(s), Contact No(s), Make of Vehicle(s) and Insurance Companies of all vehicle(s) involved.

  3. If possible, take digital/MMS photographs of all the accident vehicles and the scene of the accident which can be included during e-filing of accident reports later.

  4. If there are independent witnesses available, please note down their Names, NRIC Numbers, Addresses and Contact Numbers.
** Please note that under the following circumstances, a police report must be lodged first:
a) When there is injury to any parties (drivers, passengers or pedestrians, including cyclist);
b) When the accident involves a government vehicle or damage to government property;
c) When the accident involves a foreign vehicle;
d) When the accident involves “parked and found damaged”;
e) When it involves a “hit and run”;
f) Theft of vehicle
** If your vehicle is involved in an accident with another vehicle in Malaysia, please report the accident to the local authorities. In the event the vehicle can no longer be driven, please ensure your vehicle remains within sight and contact our Malaysian Workshop to tow your vehicle to their workshop. You may contact us at 6389 6116 (Claims Department) for assistance.  When you return to Singapore, please proceed with the following procedures for accident reporting:
  • If the accident involves a Malaysia registered vehicle in Malaysia, please report the accident at our Accident Reporting Centres in person, bringing along a copy of the Traffic Accident Report lodged in Malaysia and other relevant documents from the local authorities(if available);

  • For accidents with Singapore registered vehicles in Malaysia, please proceed to the Accident Reporting Centres, bringing along a copy of the Traffic Accident Report lodged in Malaysia and other relevant documents from the local authorities(if available).

2. Call any of our Accident Reporting Centres

Once particulars have been exchanged, call any of our Accident Reporting Centres hotlines for advice.  If the accident vehicle cannot be driven, the Accident Reporting Centres will arrange for a tow truck.  If the vehicle can be driven, you should drive your accident vehicle to the Accident Reporting Centres for reporting.

IMPORTANT NOTE

In the event of any accident involving the motor vehicle, irrespective of whether it would give rise to a claim or not, the driver shall report the accident to any of the Accident Reporting Centres with his/her accident vehicle (whether damaged or not) for photo taking within 24 hours or by the next working day with your accident vehicle, no matter how trivial or even if there is no visible damage, and irrespective of whether you are claiming from any insurers or third parties. Failure to report within 24 hours of the accident will affect your NCD upon renewal.

If the accident vehicle is not present at the time of reporting, the Accident Reporting Centres will not accept such reporting.

Please do not allow your vehicle to be taken away to any other workshops and do not sign any agreement given by any unauthorized tow-truck operator.


(B) At Accident Reporting Centres
 
  • Our policyholders are required to e-file their motor accident report within 24 hours of the accident or by the next working day with their accident vehicle (before any repair), no matter how trivial or even if there is no visible damage, and irrespective of whether you are claiming from any insurers or third parties, at the following centers :

  • Following the motor accident reporting, you would also be required to decide, within 14 days, if you would be claiming under your own policy or against the third party. [Please note that you will only be able to claim under your policy if your coverage is Comprehensive]
(C) At the Workshop
 
  1. If you are claiming under your policy (Own Damage (OD) Claim):
    (For Comprehensive Coverage Only)

    Depending on the terms of the policy, you may choose to bring your vehicle either to the Distributor or our Authorized Workshops (Auto-Safe Plan). For vehicles insured under the Auto-Safe Plan, it is compulsory that the vehicle be sent to our Authorized Workshop for repairs. Excess may be applicable. The distributor or workshop would handle the claim on your behalf by submitting a preliminary estimate of the repairs to our office. Following an inspection by our surveyor (on a case by case basis), we shall proceed to authorize the distributor/workshop to carry out repair works accordingly.   2. If you are claiming against the insurer of the Third Party:

    You may appoint workshops from our authorised list or your preferred workshop to handle the claim on your behalf. Please note that if you should choose this option, you will not be able to revert to your own insurance policy for indemnity [Please refer to General Condition 5 (b) of your Policy Jacket].

    ** In the event you receive a third party claim from the owner of the other vehicle(s) or his/their appointed representative, please contact us @ (65) 6389 6116 and forward the documents received to our office immediately upon receipt of the documents.
Theft of Vehicle
 
  • If your vehicle is stolen in Singapore, please lodge a police report immediately and forward the police report to our office as well as your hire-purchase company (if relevant) immediately.

  • Similarly, if your vehicle is stolen in Malaysia, you are required to report to the local authorities and forward the police report to our office as well as your hire-purchase company (if relevant) immediately.

  • Investigation would be conducted accordingly.
Windscreen Damage
 
  • In the event of a windscreen damage, depending on the terms of your policy, you may choose to bring your vehicle to the Distributor or our Authorized Workshop (Auto Safe Plan). For vehicles insured under the Auto-Safe Plan, it is compulsory that the vehicle be sent to our Authorized Workshop for repairs. An excess may be applicable. The distributor or workshop would handle the claim on your behalf by submitting a preliminary estimate of the repairs to our office for assessment. We shall then proceed to authorize the distributor/workshop to carry out repair works accordingly.
